The Game of Thrones prequel by-product sequence House of the Dragon sure has some balls, hasn’t it? We are, of path, referring to the balls on the desk in House of the Dragon’s Small Council scenes.

You may have spotted these props on the HBO show. When King Viserys (Paddy Considine) gathers his Small Council in the Red Keep, he and his advisers each have a color-coded stone ahead of them on a marble dish. And in the middle of the table, there’s a big dish that holds the stones of the absent council participants.

WinterIsComing.net reports those stones aren’t discussed in writer George R. R. Martin’s books. So, what do they mean?

As quickly as House of the Dragon premiered on HBO, audience took understand of those stone balls. “I in reality need someone to explain this ball-on-the-table factor they maintain doing at every Small Council meeting,” one individual tweeted on Aug. 21 as the sequence premiered.

“What are those little stone balls they put on the desk for when they have their meetings?” some other Twitter user wrote that similar night time. “Is that how they take attendance? They appear important but also beside the point.”

“House of the Dragon [is] like, ‘Gentlemen, let’s get started the meeting. Please position your balls on the desk,’” some other viewer tweeted the following week.

And even a House of the Dragon hater — person who claimed to have “0 investment” in the “a bloody snoozefest” of a TV show — still appreciated that prop. “My fave section is the balls on the desk when they've a meeting,” that Twitter person wrote.

Small Council participants use the stones “punch in” to the conferences.

The concept for the stones got here from House of the Dragon set decorator Claire Nie Richards and manufacturing clothier Jim Clay, in keeping with The Hollywood Reporter. “It represented the council coming in and being section of the meeting,” Claire instructed the mag.

Ryan Condal, House of the Dragon’s showrunner, approved of that bit of set decor. “Everybody shows up for paintings and so they ‘punch in,’” he explained to THR. “I assumed it used to be in point of fact cool. It’s a way of visualizing the set formality of the Small Council chamber. It’s enjoyable; we should have things that we like on this world.”

The stone will also be a visible reminder of the show’s political setting.

CNET’s Jennifer Bisset observes that the stone balls at the Small Council meetings show council members’ loyalty — or disloyalty. “Whenever Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) is absent from conferences, his darkish ball stands out in the heart of the table, by myself in the better dish,” Jennifer writes. “After that first episode, it symbolizes Daemon, the black sheep, being cast out from the council as well as the race for turning into Viserys’ inheritor.”

And /Film’s Mike Shutt says that the stone balls are a symbol of Seven Kingdoms tradition that will quickly be damaged. “They upload to the decorum of the proceedings, an emblem that shows a functioning govt,” Mike provides. “Only seven folks at most take a seat around this desk. You can clearly see who is and isn’t there. This is the process. This is tradition … and that apply was once abandoned in the future. The procedure of governing changed, even if the change was slight, and perhaps that alerts the kingdom to adapt in different ways.”
