The British crime drama set in the ‘50s, Grantchester, is already on its fifth season (the newest season premiered June 14). What many fanatics love most in regards to the new season is that we’re finding out more about Will Davenport (Tom Brittney), a local vicar. When Sidney Chambers left, Will was once named the native vicar in the Cambridge-adjacent village.

After a rough childhood (which involved partying and dozing with girls) Will decided to turn his life around and made a vow of celibacy. He in the end grew to become to the church for redemption.

But many wish to know: Can Anglican clergymen marry?

Apparently there's nothing saying monks (or bishops and other ministers of the church) to be married to the other sex (same-sex marriage, sadly, is.a whole other tale). While the Anglican Church below Henry VIII needed to remain unmarried and unquestionably celibate, Edward VI did away with this restriction when he changed into King of England in 1547. 

Anglican priests can be married once they turn into priests, or get married while they’re priests. There’s one exception to this, and that’s if you got divorced: If you’re an Anglican priest, you’re no longer allowed to remarry. (Apparently you'll if you reside in the U.S. and Canada, which are more lax about these items.)

Knowing this would possibly give Grantchester fans some hope. And it no doubt may give reporter Ellie Harding (Lauren Carse) some, as neatly. As soon as she meets Will, fans could inform she felt many ways about him. Too bad Geordie instructed her, “I wouldn’t trouble, he’s celibate.” Ellie replies, “Oh, you’re that Will. Should alternate your identify to Won’t.”

So, Will can undoubtedly have a partner. And he can get married. But will he? That kiss between Ellie and Will was pretty steamy, so IDK, Will. We appreciate your alternatives, however a lifetime with out intimacy?! Only time will tell.
